Dunlop Tire was founded in 1888 by John Dunlop, who was a Scottish veterinarian. At the time, John Dunlop was looking for a way to improve the performance of his son's bicycle. John Dunlop wanted to give it a smoother ride and better handling. In doing so John Dunlop created the first pneumatic tire, and a company that would later come to be known as Dunlop Tire. Even now, they are still researching new ways to improve tire performance. For example, a new type of tire called the Hydro-Paddle Tire has been designed specifically for wet road. This new tire is revolutionary in that it literally shoots water laterally from under the tire; unlike ordinary tires that are made to just expel water from the treads.
